Step 1: Open AltoIRA account and join FPG fund
Investing via IRA requires a custodian such as AltoIRA. FPG has no affiliation with AltoIRA, but the majority of FPG’s IRA investors have selected AltoIRA as custodian. You can open a Traditional, Roth, or SEP IRA. AltoIRA does charge a fee (~$400/yr) per account but you can do multiple investments in one account. There is no cost to open an account.
Open an AltoIRA account: https://app.altoira.com/register
Accounts must be open for 7 days before AltoIRA will send funds out of the account.
After your account is open, you will be able to join the FPG fund using this link:
FPG Ad Claritas V (Qualified Purchasers): https://app.altoira.com/invest/bvas
FPG Ad Claritas VI (Qualified Clients): https://app.altoira.com/invest/nrjy
If you do not see the fund on your dashboard, log in/out and try the link again. You must click one of the links and accept the deal.
After you hit accept, find the button to view the deal (screenshot), indicate that you are not an officer, and enter your investment amount.
If you are paying fees from your IRA, enter your investment amount plus 1.0%. Please transfer your investment amount plus your first year fees to Alto.
If you are paying fees outside the IRA, just enter your investment amount on this step. Send the fees to the bank account in the capital call document, not Alto.
Next, you will be asked to sign off on the transfer from Alto to FPG. Alto will execute the transfer after you complete Carta docs — see Step 2.
You may fund the AltoIRA account at any time, but we recommend waiting for confirmation of an allocation by FPG before doing so. Please confirm with your current custodian that they received the request from Alto for the transfer and are processing it.
Step 2: Complete Carta docs using the guides below
You should have received an email to join the fund from investorservices@carta.com.
In Carta, you will find the fund’s legal docs and be able to complete the investor questionnaire.
Use the help guides to fill out the documents correctly and avoid rework.
Links: pdf guide and video guide - we recommend both.
In many areas, you will need to use Alto’s information such as tax ID, address. You use your phone number. You will need to add Eric Satz, AltoIRA CEO, as a second signatory with all permissions, so please follow the guides.
Use the Alto W-9 template. You will need to edit box 2 with your name and IRA type, and update the W-9 date before uploading to Carta. Also update the file name from Alto W-9 John Doe IRA to Alto W-9 Your Name Roth/Traditional/Sep IRA.
After signing documents in Carta, they will be forwarded to Alto via the signatory you added. Since you have already given permission, Alto will then review and complete the transfer of funds.
Please email us at gp@firstprinciples.group if you have any questions. Thank you!
